I see when I run the script to print the keys that there are client keys, web keys, and resource keys. Can somebody tell me the functionality of the resource keys? Is this for future functionality?

Actually, I have a question about keys in general. Using the download database from a server script, you can use 3 key levels. They seem to be ownerkey, editkey, and viewkey. It looks like if you download the database using the viewkey, you cannot write changes back to the server. It doesn't tell you that, but does seem to ignore you :) What is the permission difference between the ownerkey and the editkey?

Fun!!!

Resource keys are an undocumented feature. They work like restricted web edit keys. A resource key can be assigned to each resource. It is possible to set up a report so that it is filtered by resource. Thus, you can make it so that each person who logs in with their resource key can only see their own report rows.

I use this feature in my teaching. I define a resource measurement report. Each student receives an resource key. They all view the same report, but can only view and edit their own measurement rows.

Your understanding of the difference between editkeys and viewkeys is correct.

Currently there is no difference between the ownerkey and the editkey. In the future, only the ownerkey will be usable for database administration functions.

How do you generate multiple resource keys for multiple students? Is there an additional script for generating resource keys? I could see this being useful for multiple team members if you didn't trust, or didn't want them accidentally messing with each other's rows.

I have a script that I use to add resources and generate their resource keys. It isn't very user friendly. I have to paste the student information into the script and edit it into the right format. If you email me, I would be glad to share it with you. My email is brian@pureviolet.net

Thanks for the response. I'll email you when I get back to testing that portion again.
